World Architecture Festival
About World Architecture Festival (WAF)
World Architecture Festival is the world’s largest, annual, international architectural event and is celebrating its tenth edition in 2017. It includes the biggest architectural awards programme in the world, dedicated to celebrating excellence via live presentations to an audience of high-profile delegates and international juries. WAF is the only global festival that combines awards, live judging, conferences and networking, providing architectural knowledge and inspiration.
Following a triumphant return to Europe in 2016 after four successful years in Singapore, this year’s edition will again be housed in Franz Ahrens’ historic former bus depot – the Arena Berlin, from 15-17 November 2017. 2016 was the best attended edition yet, with more than 2,300 of the world’s leading architects and designers attending WAF and its co-located sister event INSIDE World Festival of Interiors for three days of conference programmes, awards, exhibitions and fringe events.
World Architecture Festival is marking its tenth anniversary with a manifesto identifying key challenges which architects will need to address over the next ten years. They are: Climate, energy and carbon; Water; Ageing and Health; Re-use; Smart city technology; Building technology; Cultural identity; Ethics and values; Power and justice; and Virtual worlds. The intention is to generate research funding which will contribute towards work in universities and architectural practices investigating aspects of these subjects; resulting work will be exhibited at the annual event.
