Main Board Director,
William Hare Group
With over 40 years’ experience within the steelwork industry, Gary has become one of the country’s leading experts in structural steel; contributing and advising on a number of trade and industry committees. As the Engineering Manager for a global structural steelwork contractor, Gary oversaw the difficult transition from drawing board to 3D computer and have been instrumental in the development of CAD and CAM data ever since. Gary’s primary architectural focus is generally on the clarity of the drawing detail, however, his appreciation of the art and complexity of the drawing content, particularly on large-scale projects, is what defines him as an individual. Gary is a true example of what William Hare represents and strives to achieve for its employees. Joining the business as an apprentice draughtsman in the late 70’s, Gary quickly progressed through the drawing and design offices to reach a lead design position, working on a number of prestigious commercial, industrial and nuclear projects. After a short time away from The Group, Gary re-joined in 1991 as a Senior Designer, and has since progressed through the business to become a Main Board Director for the Group Engineering Department, a position he has held for the past 12 years. Gary also now acts as Engineering Manager for over 300 technical staff spread over 5 countries; the UK, Portugal, UAE, India and the Philippines. Gary’s familiarity with the business, and the industry in general, is unrivalled. Gary has delivered complex and high-profile global projects throughout his time with William Hare, and he continues to contribute to the industry associations, including both the SCI and the BCSA.
